26-43 : Nowakowski - Request for Redevelopment at 294 Louisiana Street
26-43Council Member Mitchell P. Nowakowski has formally requested the City of Buffalo's Department of Real Estate to analyze the City-owned property at 294 Louisiana Street, a vacant former police precinct in the Old First Ward. The property, comprising a nearly 13,000 square foot building on a sizable parcel zoned N-2E Mixed-Use Edge, has been a source of blight. The request highlights recent reinvestment in the area, including the redevelopment of Father Conway Park and the Barcalo mixed-use project across the street, underscoring the need to address the underutilized public asset. The Department of Real Estate is asked to assess the structure, value, and development feasibility, and based on the findings, recommend either issuing a new Request for Proposals (RFP) for redevelopment or proceeding with demolition, remediation, and sale of the vacant parcel. This item will be discussed at the Community Development Committee meeting on January 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
